What Will Subjects Do?

Each woman is initially screened for eligibility, in a two-stage process. All patients in the study will receive six months of group psychotherapy, the type decided by random assignment. For one-third, this will come after a one year waiting period. All participants, regardless of condition, will have access to our participant manager, who can provide a variety of referrals including referrals for crisis counseling (as needed). The therapy groups meet for 90-minutes, once a week, for 6 months. All groups are co-led by two female therapists. Each group consists of no more than 8 participants. All participants will also be asked to complete several assessments during their participation. The protocol has been approved by the Stanford Human Subjects Committee.
